KABUL/FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Helicopter-borne anti-drug forces raided a heroin-processing factory, destroyed it and seized 300 kilograms of narcotics in Kasham district of northeastern Badakhshan province, an official said on Thursday.
A Badakhshan Counternarcotics Department official wrote on his Facebook page that the operation was conducted in Gandom Qul village of the district on Wednesday.
He said the operation involving a special counternarcotics team resulted into the seizure of 287 kilograms of opium and 15 kilograms of heroin.
Provincial police chief, Lt Gen Fazluddin Ayar, told Pajhwok Afghan News four helicopters from the Ministry of Interior were used in the raid, but local officials had not been informed about the operation. He had no exact details about the narcotics seized.
The Kasham district chief, Abdul Salam Paiman, confirmed the operation, but gave no details.
