KABUL (Pajhwok): Officials say in western Faryab province said on Friday three militants, including a prominent commander, had been killed in a clash with security forces in Khwaja Sabzposh district.

Col. Izzatullah Sangramal, the district police chief, said the predawn clash erupted at 1.30am when a group of insurgents tried to attack a police post in Yousaf Ali area. The rebels also planted a bomb on the road leading to the Provincial Council chief’s residence.

In the ensuing clash, police shot dead three Taliban, including one commander, known as Sakhi Laat. The bodies of the commander and one of his accomplices were lying at the scene, he added.

Khal Mohammad, a resident of the area, told Pajhwok Afghan News: “Sakhi Laat did not spare anyone, government officials or civilians.”

Another resident, Lal Mohammad, complained he could not go to work because of the militant commander. “He always wielded a large knife and slaughtered people like animals…”
