Fighter jets pound rebel hideouts in Waziristan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Four suspected militants were killed on Friday when Pakistani helicopter gunships and fighter jets pounded their hideouts in the tribal region of North Waziristan.

The Taliban sanctuaries were struck in Miranshah, Machis Camp and Mir Ali bazaar areas, DawnNews reported in the raid.  Since Wednesday, 73 local and foreign fighters have been killed in a series of airstrikes in North Waziristan and.

A curfew has been in place in the areas for the past three days. Thousands of residents have fled to Bannu district. For the first time, security forces used reconnaissance drones in the operation.

The newspaper Express Tribune quoted security sources as saying that dozens of militant hideouts had been destroyed in Machis and Kharwani areas on the outskirts of Miranshah.
