KABUL (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai has accepted India’s invitation to attend prime minister-elect Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony, officials said on Saturday.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister House in New Delhi said the inauguration ceremony would be held on May 26.
Indian foreign minister spokesman Syed Akbaruddin on Friday told reporters presidents of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries had been invited.
Indian news sites reported President Karzai was the first president to accept the invitation.
In Kabul, deputy spoesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sirajul Haq acknowledged an Afghan delegation led by President Karzai delegation would attend Modi’s inauguration.
Foreign Minister Zarar Ahmad Osmani would be part of the delegation, he said. A day earlier, the Presidential Palace said Karzai had phoned Modi and told him about his plan to visit New-Delhi in the near future.
