2 Americans wounded in Herat attack

HERAT CITY (Pajhwok): A US military convoy came under attack in western Herat province on Wednesday, a local official said.

The attack took place around 9:00am when the convoy was passing through Injil district, said the provincial police chief.

Brig. Gen. Samiullah Qatra told Pajhwok Afghan News one vehicle of American forces was partially damaged. No one suffered casualties.

Qatra said US helicopters started aerial surveillance of the area after the incident.

In Kabul, the US embassy confirmed a vehicle of its consulate was attacked in Herat while traveling on a main road in the southern part of the city. 

“Two Americans were slightly injured and are being treated at the Spanish hospital in Herat. The USG is working closely with Afghan authorities to investigate the incident,” it added.
