KABUL (TTP), indicating differences within the outlawed group.

A spokesman for the Hakimullah Mehsud faction, led by Khalid Mehsud, told reporters from an undisclosed location that they had parted ways with the rebel movement.

Azam Tariq, also a member of the Taliban Leadership Council, said that promotion of a sectarian mindset and individual ideologies had fuelled rows among the Taliban.

According to DawnNews, Tariq accused the Taliban of carrying out bomb attacks on public places with fake names and extorting money from religious and other institutions.

The Mehsud group had tried to reform the TTP, but elements within the militant organisation frustrated its efforts, the spokesman said, adding the central group had been hijacked by invisible forces.

Intra-TTP differences started surfacing after Hakimullah Mehsud’s killing in a US drone strike in November last year. The infighting has impeded progress in the peace negotiations with the government.

A day earlier, Pakistan Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif said the whole nation had rejected the ‘misplaced ideology’ of terrorists, who had lost their cause. He made the remarks during a visit to field formations in South Waziristan.
