KABUL (Pajhwok): Thousands of families would find access to electricity in this central capital with the completion of a 220KW transmission line project, the power utility said on Saturday.

The lines are being extended to the Arghandi and Chamtali areas west of Kabul, Da Afghanistan Brishna Shirkat said in a statement.

Work on stretching the 20 kilometres lines was formally launched on Saturday, the statement said.

It added the project would be completed in 18 months by KEC, a private power supply company.

The scheme would benefit more than 80,000 families in the two areas.

The statement said the project would cost $19.6 being provided by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the lines would connect power sub-stations in the two areas to each other.
