LASHKARGAH (Pajhwok): Power supply to Lashkargah, the capital of southern Helmand province, has been halted for the last three weeks due to a technical fault in one of the turbines at the Kajaki hydropower dam, an official said on Sunday.
Eng Faizullah, the electricity department head, told Pajhwok Afghan News one of the two turbines at the dam had stopped working and technicians were busy fixing the fault.
He said Lashkargah was supplied 20 megawatts of electricity from the dam, but currently residents used power generators to meet their needs.
He said the issue had been shared with the Ministry of Energy and Water and repairing work on the turbine was underway.
Khair Rehman, a resident of Lashkargah, said people were facing problems in the face of increasingly hot weather.
