3 ANA soldiers killed, 12 police injured

Jun 05, 2014 - 15:57

HEART CITY (Pajhwok): Three Afghan National Army (ANA) troops were killed on Thursday in a gun attack in western Herat province and a dozen police officers were injured during two separate incidents in Farah and Badghis provinces, officials said.

Two motorcyclists opened fire at an ANA vehicle in the 8th police district of Herat City, killing three service members and injuring another three, Herat police spokesman Abdul Rauf Ahmadi told Pajhwok Afghan News.

The attackers had managed to flee after the attack and the injured soldiers were shifted to a military hospital, he said, adding a manhunt to nab the attackers was ongoing.

Elsewhere, the police chief for Pusht Rud district and his five bodyguards were wounded in a roadside bombing in Masaw area of the town in Farah province.

The district chief, Ghausududdin, said the blast took place when the police were busy searching for landmines in the area. The injured were shifted to Farah Civil Hospital.

Abdul Hakim Rassouli, the civil hospital director, said the police chief and another police officer were in critical condition.

In northern Badghis, six border police officers were injured in a mortar attack in the Bala Murghab district.

Border oolice official Mohammad Hamdard confirmed the incident and said the wounded were being treated at a local clinic and that they were in stable condition.
