21 district chiefs return from training in India

KABUL (Pajhwok): Twenty-one district chiefs on Sunday returned from India, where they attended a two-week training programme on good governance.

A ceremony welcoming home the district administrative heads in Kabul, Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Amar Sinha said his country was committed to assisting Afghanistan in diverse fields.

He said India would train another more than 2,000 Afghan government employees to improve their capacity in area of good governance.

The returning district chiefs underwent a two-week long training course at the Indian Public Institute in New Delhi, said policy director at the Independent Directorate of Local Governance (IDLG).

Fareed Mamondzai told the ceremony the district chiefs would transfer what they learned in India to their colleagues and subordinates.

The programme to send Afghan officials for training to India began two years ago and so far 256 district chiefs and financial officers from all the 34 provinces have benefited from the programme, he said.
