JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Three heavily armed militants were shot dead by security forces during a fierce gunbattle after they stormed a courtroom in the capital of eastern Nangarhar province on Monday, police said.
The attackers laced with guns and hand grenades stormed the court building in Jalalabad at around 3pm and the attack came to an end with the death of all the three attackers at 5pm, Nangarhar police chief Fazl Ahmad Sherzad told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said the attackers first lobbed hand grenades before forcing their way into the courtroom. He said a policeman was injured in the crossfire that lasted two hours.
But the civil hospital director, Dr. Hamayun Zaheer, told Pajhwok Afghan News they had been delivered five injured people from the scene. They included two policemen and three civilians, he said.
The Taliban have so far said nothing about the attack that came a day after a group of armed insurgents stormed a parking facility of border police in the Behsud district south of Jalalabad.
The attack that took place last night in the Maulvi Khalis residential area left three attackers dead and a guard of the parking lot injured.
The attackers also torched 25 trucks parked at the facility. The Taliban have claimed reasonability for the attack in Behsud.
