JALALABAD (Pajhwok): A total of 393 polling sites would stay open on polling day in eastern Nangarhar province, director Independent Election Commission (IEC) said on Thursday.
Aminullah Fazli told Pajhwok Afghan News a total of 383 polling sites were opened during the April 5 presidential and provincial council polls in Nangarhar. He said security forces had submitted a report with regard of bolstered security for the runoff ballot.
Following cleanup operations launched by the Afghan security forces, he said of ten polling sites, security of eight polling sites had been ensured.
He said electoral materials have been shifted to districts and now it was the turn of the people to vote in large number.
People had faced with lack of ballots in some polling sites during the first round, he said, pledging that 96 polling centres had been established to overcome shortage of polls related materials in some far-flung areas.
Police Chief Brig. Gen. Fazal Ahmad Shirzad said: “We have adopted stringent security measures to protect voters and polling centres on Election Day. People can cast their vote without fear.”
