Ahmadzai seeks transparency in vote count
KABUL (Pajhwok): Presidential runner Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Saturday said the people had discharged their duty by streaming to polling stations to cast ballots, asking the Independent Election Commission (IEC) to demonstrate extraordinary transparency in vote count.
Addressing a late-night press conference, Ahmadzai said: “We will wait until the announcement of results by the IEC. However, political results are already clear. People have proved they want change and we have the team to deliver it.”
His team’s observers in various provinces witnessed massive rigging and fraud, the economist alleged, promising proofs of anomalies would be presented before the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC). He has held talks with the president, defence and interior ministers in this connection.
In the election process, some government officials brazenly interferred and the issue would be shared with the IECC for thorough investigations, he concluded.
