Security men among 6 dead in Kunduz, Badakhshan

FAIZABAD/KUNDUZ (Pajhwok): Six people were killed and 10 others wounded in separate incidents in northern Kunduz and northeastern Badakhshan provinces, where five polling sites had to be shut, officials said on Saturday.

A police sergeant was killed and a polling centre closed as a result of rocket attack in Kharandab area of Jurm district, Badakhshan police chief, Lt. Gen. Fazluddin Ayar, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He added a second policeman was killed and two others wounded as two vehicles carrying sensitive electoral materials struck a roadside bomb in Warduj district on Friday afternoon. 

According to Ayar, a voter was injured and three polling sites were closed after a barrage of rockets slammed into polling centres in Yamgan district at 7:00am.

Additionally, former Wolesi Jirgainfo-icon member Maulviinfo-icon Abdul Aziz and member of Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon led by Hekmatyar and his supporters forced people at a polling centre in Kohistan district to vote for Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai.

But he managed to flee and the polling centre closed as police reached the site, but they were trying to reopen relevant centre.

Elsewhere, armed rebels attacked a polling centre in Tarang village of Vordoj district today, the police chief said. But the situation come under control without as more security forces reached the site. 

Four armed rebels, including Qari Omar were killed and seven others wounded following a clash in the capital of northern Kunduz province, police spokesman, Syed Sarwar Hussaini said.

The incident took place as a polling centre in Hazrat Sultan area come under rebel attack on Friday evening, he said.
