WASHINGTON (Pajhwok): Congratulating the people of Afghanistan on the successful second round of presidential elections, the White House on Saturday said it was looking forward to working with next government.

“We look forward to working with the next government chosen by the Afghan people,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.

He called the elections a significant step forward on Afghanistan’s democratic path, saying the courage and resolve of the Afghan people to make their voices heard was a testament to the importance of these polls to securing Afghanistan’s future.

The US commended the voters, electoral bodies and security forces for their commitment to the democratic process, he said. The work of the electoral commissions in the weeks ahead will be particularly important.
