Pajhwok obtains results from 160 polling sites

Jun 15, 2014 - 00:17

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): Pajhwok Afghan News, having obtained unofficial results of the runoff presidential vote from 160 polling sites across the country, would release the figures on Sunday.

Amid tight security and allegations of fraud in several provinces, countrywide voting in the landmark runoff presidential election began at 7.00am and came to a close at 5.00pm.

Sixty-five Pajhwok reporters in the capital Kabul and all 34 provinces worked until midnight to collect results from 160 polling sites. They also obtained the relevant documents.

Around seven million people participated in the election, with womeninfo-icon constituting 38 percent of them, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) chief said. He put the voter turnout at about 58 percent.

Details of the results will be released on Sunday.
