KABUL) Secretary Ziaul Haq Amarkhel to Sarobi district should not be used as a propaganda tool to damage election credibility.
Presidential candidate Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai’s team leader, Faizullah Zaki, told a press conference said they had investigated the claim of ballot papers’ transportation to Sarobi district.
“We suggest this issue be investigated impartially in line with the election law,” Zaki said, adding that demands for suspending the IEC secretary were aimed at damaging the national process. “This kind of request is unacceptable to the nation,” he added.
IEC Secretary Zia-ul-Haq Amarkhel was accused of rigging by the Kabul police chief, who said the official was trying to transfer election materials to 21st police district and Sarobi on Election Day.
For his part, Amarkhel dismissed the allegations as unsubstantiated. He said his staff was not allowed by police to dispatch ballot papers to polling centres. He slammed the police action as brazen interference in the commission’s affairs.
IEC Chief Ahmad Yousuf Nuristani vehemently rejected request of Abdullah to sack Amarkhel from his duty. Addressing a news conference, Nuristani said that they are ready to investigate the issue independently
