KABUL) on Tuesday said 88.5 percent of important election materials had reached provincial offices. Election materials from 11 provinces have been transferred to Kabul.
IEC spokesman Noor Mohammad Noor told a news conference in Kabul that election materials from 598 polling stations had not yet reached the provincial offices.
“Ballot papers from 11 provinces have arrived at the IEC head office. Transportation of the materials is still going on,” Noor said, adding votes from 5,718 polling stations had reached the IEC office. Ballots from 1,427 stations have been processed.
Representatives of both candidates could oversee the counting process that would be completed in seven phases, Noor said.
He added important materials from Kandahar, Uruzgan, Zabul, Helmand, Nimroz, Heart, Farah, Badghis and Ghor provinces would reach the IEC main office by the end of the day.
Election results will be released in three phases in line with Article 19 of the relevant law — in the first phase, 35 percent, in second 70 percent and in final 100 percent.
The preliminary result is scheduled to be announced on July 2, while the final outcome is slated for July 22.
Noor rejected the allegation of sending more than enough ballot papers to some polling stations. The number of ballot papers sent to the provinces was confirmed by both runners, he concluded.
