FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): Afghan security forces regained control of the Farghamiri area of the Jurm district of Badakhshan province after one year on Sunday, officials said.
The governor’s spokesman, Ahmad Naveed Frotan, said the Taliban had left Farghamiri area without outing up any resistance and fled to Farghamanj village.
He told Pajhwok Afghan News a search operation was conducted by Afghan National Army (ANA), police and intelligence operatives.
After clearing the area, security forces would gradually enter the village, where the militants have planted explosives.
Many of the 200 families living in Farghamiri area, which has been under Taliban’s control for the past year, have left homes due to security concerns.
Ahmad Fahim, who moved along with his family to Faizabad, said: “The Taliban snatch money and food from the people. Anyone defying their warnings is either beaten or killed.”
