KABUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Sunday welcomed the UN’s decision to observe compilation of runoff results and the complaint investigation process.

IECC spokesman Nader Mohseni condemned the recent statements of presidential hopeful Dr. Abdullah Abdullah regarding electoral bodies. He said remarks amounted to premature judgment.

He told reporters in Kabul IEC did not intend to hide anything from anyone and was prepared to allow UN observers to oversee the processes and procedures of the two commissions.

A day earlier, the United Nation Assistance Mission for Afghanistan (UNAMA) on said the announcement of partial results had been postponed for confidence building between the two contenders.

The IECC spokesman said: “So far, we have not initiated work on the complaints. If a candidate wants to judge the future, his criticism is misplaced because the commission is yet to decide anything.”

He added: “Our work is completely transparent and we are ready to defend our decisions. We will neither accept illegal demands nor does the law give us such permission…”

Mohseni said a review of the complaints had been completed in majority of provinces and the process would come to a close in the next two days.

He urged the IEC to cooperate with the watchdog in provinces. After completion of complaints’ review, 72 hours time would be given to appeals against the decisions of provincial offices
