Refugees from Waziristan in dire need of aid

KABUL provide emergency relief to Pakistani families displaced from the North Waziristan tribal region by an ongoing military offensive there.

A large of number of families have arrived from Waziristan into southeastern Khost and Paktika provinces fleeing ongoing clashes between Pakistani forces and hardcore militants operating on the Pakistani side of the Durand Line.

Massoud told Pajhwok Afghan News the displaced families lived in terrible conditions and direly needed shelter, drinking water and food. He said the people of Waziristan were victims of the war against terrorism and it was their moral obligation to help them.

He said President Hamid Karzai had repeatedly urged the protection of civilians during war and that the Pakistani forces should also avoid harming innocent people during their ongoing offensive in the tribal region.

Besides the international community, Massoud said, well-off people and officials of Khost, Paktika should also extend full support to the displaced families. 

Khost governor Abdul Jabbar Naeemi said thousands of families from Waziristan had sought refuge in the province.

He said local and international aid agencies had extended support to the displaced families.

He said Khost residents had accommodated some of the refugee families in their homes and were sharing with them everything they could.
