Don't hurt Afghans to please outsiders, Taliban told

Don't hurt Afghans to please outsiders, Taliban told

Jun 24, 2014 - 20:39

KABULinfo-icon (Pajhwok): President Hamid Karzai on Tuesday called on the Afghan Talibaninfo-icon to refrain from shedding blood of their countrymen for the benefits of outsiders.

Karzai said the enemies of Afghanistaninfo-icon had launched attacks and conspiracies in various provinces particularly in eastern Kunar, southern Helmand and northeastern Badakhshan provinces after the presidential runoff election.

A statement from the Presidential Palace quoted the president as saying that civilians, including womeninfo-icon and children, had been killed and wounded in Helmand as a result of these attacks, displacing thousands of families.

Karzai apparently referred to ongoing clashes in Sangin district, where local officials say about 3000 families have been displaced and a large number of civilians killed and wounded over the past five days.

The president directed all the departments concerned to assist the families of those killed and wounded and dispatch relief goods to those displaced on emergency basis.

Karzai said the Taliban, who were the sons of the soil, should not cause casualties to their innocent brothers, sisters and children on behalf of outsiders. He said the Afghan Taliban should realise that the outsiders wanted the blood of Afghans to be shed by Afghans.

The president also called on Afghan security forces to bravely defend the masses, the motherland and children.
