Wind power generation: Survey launched
TALOQAN (Pajhwok): A survey for wind-power generation has been launched in northern Takhar province, an official of the Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (ABS) said on Wednesday.
ABS Director Haji Mohammad Momand told Pajhwok Afghan News required machinery had been installed in the Rustaq, Cha Aab and Galfigan districts to determine the speed of wind throughout the year.
He said Takhar had a lot of wind in almost every season. If the survey yields positive results, the wind power system generating 40 megawatts would be installed in the province.
Private Sector Services Director Mustafa Rasuli said the project would be completed at a cost of $16,000. The Ministry of Water and Power, Energy Group, GIZ, Aga Khan Foundation and the Rural Rehabilitation Department have been assisting in conduct of the survey.
Abdul Saboor Darmal, a resident of Farkhar district, complained they were still without electricity despite the construction of multiple dams. He hoped the wind-power generation system would alleviate people’s plight on the one hand and boost economic activity on the other.
