Wardak police chief escapes unhurt in attack

MAIDAN SHAHR (Pajhwok): The police chief of central Maidan Wardak province escaped unhurt in a militant attack in Nirkh district on Thursday, but his driver and guard were injured.

Attaullah Khogyani, the governor’s spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the incident happened at 11:00am when Abdul Ghafoor was heading to Nirkh district.

He said gunfire between police and the assailants took place after the attack. The police chief’s driver and one of his guards were wounded during the gunbattle.

Nirkh district has been a hub of Talibaninfo-icon and Hezb-i-Islamiinfo-icon Afghanistaninfo-icon (HIA) fighters. Recently, HIA fighters left the district.
