MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Two civilians were killed and at least 9 others were injured on Thursday evening when a bomb went off in front of a marketplace in the northern city of Mazar-i-Sharif.
The explosion occurred in front of the Kifayat market west of the Hazrat Ali Mausoleum at 7:25pm, when people were preparing to break the fast, said Gen. Ayub Salangi, the Ministry of Interior spokesman.
He said the blast occurred near a crowd of people, killing one and injuring eight others.
But the chief doctor at the Mazar-i-Sharif civil hospital, Noor Mohammad Faiz, they had been delivered two dead bodies and nine injured people from the scene.
He said the injured included four children with two of them in critical condition.
But a police officer standing in front of the market told Pajhwok Afghan News he had evacuated three dead bodies and 10 injured people to vehicles for carrying to hospital.
He said the explosives concealed in a sack had been placed in a dust bin which exploded between a police and a private car.
The police stayed unhurt in the explosion, he said.
Hospital source says they recived two dead bodies and 9 wouned persons.
So far no group has asserted responsibility for the blast that occurred at iftar time.
