SHARANA (Pajhwok): Eight Afghan Local Police (ALP) members have been killed during separate clashes with insurgents in southeastern Paktika and northern Baghlan provinces, officials said on Sunday.
ALP spokesman in Paktika Ghulam Mohammad Watanmal told Pajhwok Afghan News five ALP men were killed during a clash with rebels in the Zawki area in the morning. He said the rebels also suffered casualties during the clash but he had no exact information.
A resident of the area, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Taliban attacked an ALP post last night, sparking a gunbattle that lasted 30 minutes. He said the five ALP men killed included the post commander Sahib Khan.
Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said six ALP members were killed in the attack that resulted into the seizure of some weapons and ammunition.
In Laghman, three ALP members were killed an ambush attack by the insurgents in Dehna Ghori district, deputy provincial police chief Col. Abdul Bashir said.
He said the assailants had fled after staging the attack.
