KABUL cricket team on Thursday left for Zimbabwe for a series of matches starting from July 18, an official said.

The team would play four one-day internationals (ODIs) and two Test matches with the hosts, Farid Hotak, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

He said the squad had been directed to focus on the game because the whole nation is expecting to win the face-off against its rival.

Earlier, the ACB had arranged a training camp of 26 players for the Zimbabwe tour out of which the names of 16 players were finalized.

The 16 members squad includes Noor Ali, Usman Ghani, Javed Ahmadi, Asghar Stanikzai, Shafiqullah Shafaq, Samiullah Shinwari, Mohmmad Nabi Esakhel (captain), Hashmatullah Shahidi, Rahmat Shah, Mirwis Ashraf, Gulbadin Naib, Shahpoor Zadran, Dawlat Zadran, Aftab Alam, Hamza Hotak and Sharafuddin Sharaf.
