KABUL) on Monday said it would begin an extensive audit of all run‐off election results from almost 23,000 polling stations at its headquarters in Kabul.
Roughly 8 million ballots cast in the 2014 run‐off would be subject to audit, including those that have already been audited previously, the panel said, adding it had already begun the planning and preparation phase for the audit.
“Following consultation with candidate teams, observers and other stakeholders, the IEC will announce a precise start date for the audit exercise,” a statement from the commission said.
The agents of both candidates, national and international observers and media will closely observe the audit process. Criteria will include those already in place, as well as additional principles recommended by the UN.
“Committed to producing results that more accurately reflect the will of Afghan voters, the IEC will only announce certified final election results, once the audit is complete, and after having received results of IECC adjudication,” it concluded.
