KABUL and Eid-ul-Fitr.
“Ramadan is a time of peace and community and should be observed in a spirit of compassion and unity – a ceasefire would be more than appropriate for this holy occasion,” said Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Ján Kubiš.
In a statement, he said: “I wholeheartedly support this call from civil society and sincerely hope the parties will take heed of it.”
The UN mission noted Afghan families should be able to worship and celebrate in peace, without fear of violence in light of the sanctity of this month.
