Meeting discusses economy, smuggling

KABUL (Pajhwok): A high-level meeting, chaired by President Hamid Karzai, on Thursday discussed the country’s current economic situation.

Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and Abdullah Abdullah, the presidential candidates, were also invited to the session held at the Presidential Palace in the evening.  

The overall economic situation of the country, improved state income, an effective customs system and anti-smuggling measures came up for discussion,

According to a statement from Karzai’s office, the participants offered suggestions on strengthening regarding the economy and combating the menace of smuggling.

The participants decided to arrange a series of meetings in coming days with representatives of donor countries and foreign businessmen and investors.

The first vice-president, ministers of finance and economy, as well as the deputy chief of Da Afghanistan Bank were present on the occasion, the statement said.
