KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) on Friday claimed around 1,000 kilograms of opium had been seized during an offensive in southern Helmand province.
A statement from the ministry’s counternarcotics department said the operation was carried out in Garamsar district late on Thursday.
However, it did not mention the exact location where the operation was conducted. No one was arrested as a result of the offensive.
It said that a Datsun pickup being used for smuggling the contraband was impounded by law enforcement officials. Police have mounted a search for smugglers.
