ZARANJ/PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): A woman and a girl were killed after suspected militants lobbed hand grenades into their house in the Dushi district of northern Baghlan province, an official said on Saturday.

Police spokesman Javed Basharat told Pajhwok Afghan News three suspects had been arrested in connection with the incident, but stopped short of going into details.

However, Nazar Mohammad, owner of the house, said gunmen threw a hand grenade into his home in Zari village, killing his wife and daughter and he himself sustaining injuries.

Being treated for his wounds at the provincial civil hospital, Mohammad denied any personal enmity and had no idea about the attackers.

Elsewhere, police rescued a child from her abductors in southwestern Nimroz province.

Crime branch chief Maj. Rahmatullah Nasir said the child, Manizha, had been abducted from Zaranj city, the provincial capital, to Siadak area on the city’s outskirts.

Police secured the release of the girl hours later she had been kidnapped and arrested two alleged kidnappers. The abductors had demanded 10 million afghanis in ransom from her family, the police official said.

The girl’s father, Najibullah, praised police for their timely action against the kidnappers.
