Pajhwok greets nation on Independence Day

The Independence Day is being celebrated throughout out the country with national zeal and enthusiasm with fervor by holding special programmes and ceremonies.

Former King Ghazi Amanullah achieved independence from Great Britain 95 years ago, though Afghanistan has never been a British colony.

The first Anglo-Afghan war took place in 1839, the second in 1880 and the third in 1919. The British were forced to strike a deal with Afghans and declare Afghanistan an independent state.
