KABUL, the military said.
The remote-controlled explosive device went off in Salarzai sub-district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement. The dead include three female teachers, two children and a driver.
Planted in Tangi, the device exploded when the school van was passing by, according to ISPR, which said the school was run by an NGO. Rescuers rushed to the site and shifted the injured to the Agency Headquarters Hospital in Khar.
As a result of the blast, the vehicle van was destroyed and a passer-by injured. Security forces have cordoned off the site and conducted raids in search of those responsible for the attack.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bombing, but Bajaur has long been in the grip of an unrelenting Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) insurgency.
