KABUL (Pajhwok): Eighteen insurgents have been killed in security operations in different parts of the country over the past 24 hours, the Ministry of Interior said on Friday.
Afghan forces conducted the offensives in Kunar, Kandahar, Logar, Khost, Paktika, Kapisa and Helmand provinces, a statement from MoI said, adding 18 fighters were killed and eight others wounded.
Security personnel also seized arms and ammunitions during the operations. Police recovered landmines near Pul-i-Alam, the capital of Logar province, the MoI statement added.
On the other hand, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the militants had attacked a number of security checkpoints in Kunar, Logar and Paktika provinces late on Thursday.
In northern Jawzjan province, Mujahid said, several security personnel were killed and wounded in a bomb attack in the Qashqar area of Faizabad district.
