KANBUL (Pajhwok): The Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) on Monday announced receiving results of the UN-supervised nationwide audit of ballots casts in the runoff polls.
On Sunday, the Independent Election Commission (IEC) announced completing the vote audit process and said the results would be shared soon with the electoral watchdog.
Results of 405 suspect ballot boxes are reexamined for technical reasons. As many as 2,200 complaints have been registered by the Abdullah-led Reform and Unanimity. Of them, 1,683 have been found legitimate.
Ashraf Ghani’s Change and Continuity team has filed 729 objections, with 242 declared valid.
Abdul Sattar Sadat, the IECC chief, wrote on his Facebook page: “The results reached my table today. The IEC has given us details of invalidated ballots.”
The watchdog would neither keep the nation guessing, he said, suggesting the complaints would be addressed swiftly. He assured political and legal issues would not be mixed.
“We will announce our decision very soon. Agreements or disagreements between the candidates will not impinge on the legality or credibility of the elections,” Sadat remarked.
