KABUL (Pajhwok): Both presidential campaigns said on Saturday the candidates had almost reached an agreement but only minor difference over the announcement of the final election result remained.
A spokesman for the Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai-led Change and Continuity team, told Pajhwok Afghan News both runners closed in on the agreement on forming a national unity government on Friday night.
The text of the accord had been prepared and would be signed soon, he said, adding: “The election result is not an issue in the pact. We believe it can be solved in line with the Constitution…”
Mujib Rahman Rahimi a spokesman for Dr. Abdullah Abduallh, confirmed all issues had been settled but some small differences over the announcement of the results were yet to be sorted out.
The presidential hopefuls, President Hamid Karzai and a number of other leaders would discuss the issue today (Saturday), he explained. Rahimi was optimistic of the candidates giving the nation good news in the afternoon.
