KABUL (Pajhwok): The National Security Council, stressing improvement in the administrative structure of the Afghan National Army (ANA) and police, has ordered the creation of coordination centre in southern Helmand province.
During a meeting, chaired by President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai on Thursday night, the council directed the authorities to initiate effective measures to disarm all irresponsible and unauthorised gunmen in northern Kunduz province.
A statement from the Presidential Palace said the NSC instructed the Ministries of Defence and Interior to work in coordination with the Independent Directorate of Local Governance to strengthen coordination among security organs at the provincial level.
Participants were briefed on progress in compilation of reports on law and order threats, security policy and operational strategy. The national security advisor said the documents would be finalised by Afghan experts with the technical assistance of international partners in the next five weeks.
While discussing the situation in Helmand, the meeting agreed on establishing a centre for forging coordination between civilian leaders and security officials in the province.
