KABUL (Pajhwok): The government on Wednesday vehemently denied any rift between President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai and his Minister of Interior Omar Daudzai.
A leading US newspaper claimed on Tuesday that the president had recently barred his interior minister, who showed up a few minutes later, from attending a high-level meeting.
Responding to the New York Times report, the ministry voiced its disappointment over the article. MoI said the report was far from accurate and its spokesman had already scotched such rumour.
While acknowledging the important role journalists play in a healthy democracy, it regretted the newspaper’s focus on insignificant issues at a crucial time in Afghanistan’s history.
In statement, the ministry said it understood its crucial role in supporting the president and his programmes. “The (NYT) claim is simply false and baseless,” the statement added.
