KABUL’s southern Balochistan province, on Thursday morning.

Unidentified gunmen attacked a bus carrying the men, killing nine people and injuring six others, Pakistani media outlets quoted local police as saying. The incident was billed as a sectarian attack.

Five motorcyclists boarded the bus in the Hazar Ganji area and opened indiscriminate fire on the inmates. The vehicle was about to leave a vegetable market, the Express Tribune reported.

Police officer Imran Qureshi told Dawn the gunmen sprayed the Mazda bus with bullets before fleeing the spot. The victims’ bodies were evacuated to the Bolan Medical Complex, where a large number of people gathered.

While expressing their outrage over the latest attack on the minority community, the Hazara Democratic Party and Majlis-e-Wahdat-i Muslimeen called a strike in the city for Friday.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif vehemently denounced the assault and directed the interior secretary to mobilise security agencies and ensure the arrest of the killers. He ordered that swift and stern action.
