KABUL (Pajhwok): Police have seized 640 kilograms of opium during separate operations in Helmand and Badakhshan provinces, the Ministry of Interior announced on Friday.
A statement from the ministry said the operations were conducted by a special unit of counternarcotics police in the Marja district of Helmand and Badakhshan’s Kashm town.
It added 420 kilograms of opium, a Kalashnikov assault with, ammunitions and a satellite telephone were seized in Marja three days ago.
Similarly, police recovered 220 kilograms of opium from a car in Kashm. Two individuals were detained on the charge of trying to smuggle the drugs to Kabul.
