Greater focus on education quality: Nang

KABUL (MoE) official on Saturday said most resources have been diverted to improving education quality and increasing enrollment in schools.

Mohammad Asif Nang, the director of professional and technical education, told a function honouring teachers in Kabul that their top priority would be to provide quality education to students.

The function was organised by the Education Ministry to appreciate 10 best teachers from Kabul.

Nang said currently 11 million children were taught at 18,000 schools nationwide. However, he said due to a weak quality education, even some 12^th class students could not accurately read and write.

In order to improve the quality of education, he said, they needed to reduce the number of subjects and improve text books. Nang hailed the 10 best selected teachers and awarded them certificates.

MoE spokesman Mohammad Kabir Haqmal said 25,000 teachers in 273 public and 325 private schools taught students in Kabul.

Mohammad Mazhar Nijat, a teacher at the Amani High School, such appreciation programmes had been useful in encouraging teachers to work hard.
