KABUL (Pajhwok): The prices of firewood fell while rates of gold rose during the outgoing week in Kabul, market sources said on Thursday. Food rates remained stable.

The price of petrol decreased from 64 to 61afs per litre and diesel remained unchanged at 58afs, Abdul Saboor, the owner of a pump station in Wazirabad, told Pajhwok Afghan News.

Mohammad Sharif, a retailer in the Taimani neighbourhood of the capital, said the rate of one kg of gas fell to 65afs from last week’s price of 70afs.

Khan Mohammad, a firewood seller in Charahi-i-Shahid area, said per 560kg of firewood counted for 7,000 afghanis, compared with 7,500 afghanis last week. 

Fazal Rahman, the Food Traders’ Association head, the wholesale rate of a 49-kg bag of flour came down from 12,00afs to 1,270afs. Rates of other food items stayed stable, with a 50-kg sack of sugar sold for 1,720afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 1,800afs.

A 5-kg tin of ghee continued to cost 360afs, a kg of Vietnamese green tea 180afs, the same quantity of African black tea 210afs.

But a retailer in Dahan-i-Bagh area, Khan Ali, sold a 49-kg bag of flour for 1,350afs, a 50-kg sack of sugar for 2,000afs and a 24-kg bag of rice for 2,300afs and a 5-kg tin of Momin ghee for 440afs.

Mohammad Fawad, a jeweller in the city, said one gram of Arabian gold rose by 50afs to 2,100afs and the same quantity of the Iranian variety to 1,700afs to 1750s.

Moneychanger Ahmad Shah said the buying rate of one US dollar was 57.80afs, while 1,000 Pakistani rupees accounted for 561afs. Last week’s exchange value of the dollar stood at 58afs and 1,000 Pakistani rupees at 565afs.
