Norway pledges continued aid to Afghanistan

KABUL in the group of 12 countries Norway has been focusing on.

The Norwegian FM was called on President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai at the Presidential Palace before noon, a statement from the palace said.

At the meeting, both sides discussed anti-graft efforts, reforms implementation, security and economic development of Afghanistan and its relations with the world, the statement said.

Brende called the formation of the national unity government and the reforms so far enforced as appreciable, hoping that the new government would further strengthen.

He said his country would continue to assist Afghanistan and would increase its aid if necessary, saying the Norwegian parliament had been proposed an increase in Afghanistan aid.

The foreign minister said Norway intended to play its part in training and advising Afghan forces after the end of the combat mission. He said 75 Norwegian officers would stay on post 2014 as part of the training mission.

President Ahmadzai welcomed the foreign dignitary on his arrival and thanked Norway for its assistance to Afghanistan.

Ahmadzai called as effective the Norwegian government’s assistance in the development of Afghanistan’s legal and judicial system. He hoped Norway would continue spending a portion of its aid on the Afghan sector of rule of law.
