KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani on Thursday said government entities should not come under influence of powerful individuals, a problem felt in all provinces.

The president was talking to lawmakers from northern provinces at the President Palace, a statement from the palace said.

The MPs shared their problems and demands with the president, the statement said.

The public representatives called for improvement in the security situation in the northern region besides constructing roads, increasing the number of security personnel, fundamental reforms in government departments and improving health services.

Their other demands included fighting corruption, improving governance, embanking the Amu River, reforms in project contracts, access to potable water, infrastructure development projects and reconstructing the airport in northern Jawzjan province.

They also urged the president pay attention to the construction of water dams in the north.

For his part, Ghani said his role was to ensure good coordination among the three state pillars and creating any differences among them would not be beneficial for the country.

About foreign aid to Afghanistan, he said no country could stand on its own feet by using donations from foreign countries. He hoped Afghanistan would devise a powerful economic system over the next five years to meet its needs.

The president said government offices should not be under influence of powerful individuals. “The situation of one province affects another so the root cause of a problem should be eliminated,” he said.

About infrastructure development projects, he said the national infrastructure development plan would be ready over the next six months and a uniform development would be ensured across Afghanistan.
