KABUL (Pajhwok): Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Abdullah Abdullah on Tuesday said the national unity government was committed to establishing lasting peace in the country and carefully moving ahead in this regard.

Abdullah was talking to United States Institute of Peace (USIP) country director in Afghanistan Andrew Wilder, who called on him at the CEO office in Kabul.

Abdullah said all available resources were being used to establish durable peace, which was a long-standing demand of the Afghan people.

He said support and cooperation of the international community and neighbouring countries could definitely help achieve more gains in the peace process.

The CEO said sincere efforts from neighbouring countries and international partners were required for the establishment of durable peace in the war-torn Afghanistan.

The USIP country director said the formation of the national unity government had provided a solid foundation for resolution of the current problems in Afghanistan.

He praised efforts of the Afghan government in maintaining good relations with the international community.

Wilder said an end to the decades-long war in Afghanistan was the desire of the US government and people.
