KABUL (Pajhwok): Congressman Dana Rohrabacher on Tuesday said only sincere efforts by regional countries could help eradicate terrorism and extremism.
Heading a delegation of the US House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Rohrabacher called on Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah in Kabul, a statement from the CEO office said.
Rohrabacher, a Californian, hailed formation of the unity government in Afghanistan and called it a wise step by Afghan leaders to handle the challenges facing the country.
Rohrabacher assured the US would always stand by Afghanistan and would never allow militants to stage a comeback. He said regional cooperation was key to eliminating non-state actors.
Abdullah thanked the US for its support to defeat terrorism in Afghanistan and implement developmental projects in the impoverished country.
Abdullah said the post-2014 era was important for Afghanistan because the Afghan forces would be responsible for security of the entire country.
He also said the government was committed to eliminating terrorism and extremism from the society. Abdullah praised the sacrifices of Afghan forces and urged the international community to help equip them.
