2 uprising leaders killed in Dangam clash
ASADABAD (Pajhwok): Two leaders of the uprising group were killed on Wednesday when clashes between heavily-armed militants and villagers entered a fourth day in the Dangam district of eastern Kunar province, an official said.
He confirmed killing of two local elders and torching of 30 houses by militants, saying Afghan forces had reached the district centre but could not enter the scene of fighting because of landmines planted there.
Rehmatullah, an uprising leader, said they were fighting against the insurgents on the fourth day. “All our weapons and resources have now exhausted.”
He complained government forces could not provide them with reinforcements. “We have taken up arms to protect our motherland but the government has failed to respect our sacrifices,” he said.
Sher Khan, an uprising leader, said militants had torched his home and were searching for villagers to kill them.
Governor Shujaul Mulk Jalala claimed Afghan security forces had reached Dangam district and would respond to attacks after devising a plan.
