KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan carpets got the first position at an exhibition in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Tanwir Investments chairman said on Wednesday.
Daud Jabbarkhel told Pajhwok Afghan News around 160 companies from the Middle East, Central and South Asian countries took part in the exhibition. Carpets woven by Afghan women were showcased at the show and they won the first position.
Jabbarkhel said his company was honoured with the Arab Woman Award in recognition of its efforts at empowering Afghan women by generating work opportunities for them.
He said the Afghan carpet industry had a historic background, but its popularity was going down due to government’s negligence, including lack of patronage.
