Inmate-funded projects completed in Nangarhar jail
NANGARHAR, Dec 20, 2011: Funded by an inmate, a number of development projects at the central jail in eastern Nangarhar province have been completed, an official said on Tuesday.
Costing $30,000 (1,470,000 afghanis), the projects included a mosque, two wells, administrative offices and the repair of electricity system inside the prison, the jail's deputy commander, Col. Abdul Wali Hisarak, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said fund for the schemes was provided by an inmate named, Shafi, a resident of central Parwan province. Shafi, who had been sentenced to six years of imprisonment on the charge of making counterfeit currency notes, had completed half of his jail term, he said.
